Littlewoods HQ, Liverpool, UK

Skyways House is the new head office complex for Littlewoods Shop Direct at the former Speke Aerodrome complex in Liverpool.

The centrepiece of the 20,000 sq.m campus of buildings is the Grade 2* listed former aircraft hangar. Three levels of open plan and cellular office space for buyers, merchandisers, IT, finance and other head office functions have been created around a central atrium while the dramatic arched roof has been given new prominence by shelving back the upper floor levels and providing discrete uplighting.

The Delmatic lighting management system provides flexible switching and Dali dimming of lighting throughout the complex. A Dali solution was perfect for the project which features 200m runs of cable tray and trunking feeding multiple open plan workstations and cellular offices along its length. A traditional installation approach would have necessitated the running of individual cables to each independently controlled area: by contrast the Dali solution enabled a single mains cable to be run the length of the trunking while luminaires are individually addressed along a single two core cable run along the trunking from a Delmatic DELi module located at the head of the run. Dali presence detectors and multisensors mounted along the trunking also connect to the Dali buswire and are configured, through software, to control the relevant lights. The system also includes scene-setting within meeting and conference rooms.
